EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree with multiple course work in one of the following areas: Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or Social Work.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years of professional experience in juvenile court programs or related social services work are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2)

SELECTION / SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED

The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test. Bilingual applicants applying will be subject to skill testing.

Responsibilities

Serve on a team of Juvenile Case Managers for a truancy prevention and intervention program designed to provide case management and support services to students and families who are considered truant. Using individual judgment and discretion, provides identification/assessment, truancy intervention, and community-based referrals to social services for juveniles and their families. Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts home/school visits to perform pre-court assessments and interviews with students and families, connecting students and parents/guardians to community resources.
  • Attends Municipal Court hearings to provide judges with background information on students and makes recommendations on appropriate sanctions.
  • Maintains client documentation, case files and tracking system.
  • Works with community-based organizations, law enforcement, and juvenile justice agencies to maximize youth and parent compliance.
  • Conducts truancy education and awareness presentations; attends mandatory trainings; participates in summer programming; other duties and assignments as needed.
